What class to enter ?

I plan on joining and supporting the D4 series in 2008. I have been racing enduros for the past 8 years and currently compete in the A class. I currently hold an AMA A-card. I don't think I could run with your experts on the MX tracks. Which class would be best for me ?  Question  Question

How old are you? Would you be racing an age-group class (like +25, +30, +40, etc.)?

It can't hurt to start in the "C" class and move yourself up appropriately once you get an idea how you'll do. You can always bump up, but can't bump down. Not sure if you would be required to race A or not.

I have seen quite a few good woods riders and riders from other disciplines like flat track and speedway come to MX and do very well. The cornering and basic bike skills transfer incredibly well and an A rider will quickly adapt to the jumps, which puts the icing on the cake.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but gives you some input.

Also, I don't believe +25 or +40 have "C" classes. There's +25A and +25B and +40 is just an age group, no A, B or C desingation. I am 46 and race the VetC (vet=+30, Sr=+40) class because of the "C" designation and the fact that there are usually more riders in the +30 group. I'm thinking of going for it and riding +40 with the fast guys in '08, though.

I don't think you'll be in the C class for more than a race or two if you DO start out there. Just my 2 centavos.

I dont think you can run the C class if you are an A class rider (AMA rules)

That sounds logical. I noticed on the membership application that I need only pick a skill level and not a specific class. I have been racing A-Vet at the enduros. I suppose I will enter the age class as I also ride the odd displacement 200 KTM.

How many digits should my rider number be? I did not see any guide to class sequence. Just trying to make the process as smooth as possible.

Thank you for the replys, this is nice site.

You can be any number you so desire... just not 812 because me and dirtman got that covered!

The Vet class is age not bike size so a 200 cc will be fine. Most of the guys in the Vet class run 450's but a few run 250 2strokes and a few run 125's. I will race my 125 a few times in the vet class.

i'm not sure if you can ride c or not,but jeremy parsons rode c for a while and he was a pro speedway rider. if he could ride c i don't see why you can't. good luck and we'll see you guys at the track.

I was a B rider in flat track but the AMA / ATVA lets me run C in MX and SX, different discipline.

class rules

I think as far as I no if you have a AMA pro "A " card you have to run any event as a pro. I will check the rules and let you no.
BEE_WEAR_06

the ama rules say that you have to run the a class if you were classified as an a rider in any other ama sanctioned event

Thank you for the info. Think spring!

I have asked a AMA congresman and the answer he gave me was it is a different venue [ as stated before ] so you can start out in the bottom class. If you smoke everyone then you could move yourself up, but after doing that you cannot move back down without appealing your local AMA.   A example might be, I am a local MX expert and have never ridden a trial bike in my life. Now  i go to a event and you expect me to have a clue as to how to go up a 75'waterfall without killing myself. So i would naturally start out at the lower class untill i pointed out or was winning everything and decide to move up myself. So that being said I would start at the bottom and get a feel for it. See  how I did then move or not move from that classification.
